Stress is healthy

— by

In her TED talk, health psychologist Kelly McGonigal tells us about a study by Keller, et al (2012) which shows that it is not stress itself, but the belief that stress is unhealthy that has negative health consequences. People who experience a lot of stress and believe that stress is not unhealthy for them have been found to have the lowest mortality rate, lower even than people who experience little stress in their lives. Looking from the salutogenic view, you need stress to get moving at all. When you see stress for what it is, you see it as energy to tackle something and certainly not as an obstacle.
